What is Suno?
Suno is an AI-powered music generator that lets anyone create full, original songs from a simple text prompt. You describe what you want — a genre, a mood, a theme, or even paste in complete lyrics — and Suno produces a finished track with vocals, instruments, and production in seconds. No microphone, no instruments, no music theory needed.
The platform works through a clean web interface at suno.com. You can use Simple Mode, where you type a short description and hit Create, or Custom Mode, where you write your own lyrics, choose a style, toggle between vocals and instrumentals, and fine-tune the output. Suno generates two variations of every song, so you can pick the one you prefer or use both as starting points.
Over 100 million people have used Suno to date, and the platform continues to evolve rapidly. The latest model (v5.5, released March 2026) goes beyond audio quality improvements to offer personalisation features like Voices (train the model on your own voice), Custom Models (fine-tune Suno with your own tracks), and My Taste (the system adapts to your preferred genres and styles over time). Earlier v5 updates introduced Generative Stems (up to 12 individual instrument/vocal tracks per song) and broadcast-quality 48kHz audio. For users who want even more control, Suno Studio is an AI-native digital audio workstation (DAW) that adds timeline editing, stem editing, six-band EQ, warp markers, MIDI export, and the ability to blend AI-generated audio with your own recordings.

Exploring Musical Ideas
If you have a melody in your head or lyrics in a notebook but no way to produce them, Suno bridges that gap. Paste in your lyrics, pick a genre, and hear your words come to life as a fully produced song.

Educational and Classroom Projects
Teachers can create memorable songs to help students learn — think multiplication tables set to a catchy tune, or historical events retold as a ballad. Students can use it to explore music creation without needing instruments.

Getting Started
- Go to suno.com and sign up with your Google or Discord account — no credit card required for the free plan.
- You will land on the main dashboard. Type a description of the song you want in the prompt box (e.g. "relaxing acoustic guitar, rainy day mood, instrumental").
- Click Create and wait a few seconds. Suno will generate two variations of your song.
- Listen to both versions, then click the download icon on the one you prefer to save it as an MP3.
- To write your own lyrics, switch to Custom Mode using the toggle — this lets you paste lyrics, choose a style, and control whether the track has vocals or is purely instrumental.
Tips for Beginners
- Be specific in your prompts. Instead of "a happy song", try "an upbeat indie pop song about summer road trips with male vocals and electric guitar". The more detail you give on genre, mood, tempo, and instruments, the better the result.
- Use song structure tags in Custom Mode. Add tags like [Verse], [Chorus], [Bridge], and [Outro] in your lyrics to guide Suno on how to structure the track. This produces much more polished results than leaving the structure to chance.
- Generate multiple times. Suno creates two variations per prompt, but results vary each time. If the first pair is not quite right, click Create again with the same or a tweaked prompt — iteration is part of the process.
- Start with instrumentals if you are unsure. Toggle off vocals to get a clean backing track first. Once you find a sound you like, you can regenerate with vocals added.
- Mind your credits on the free plan. You get 50 credits per day (roughly 10 songs). Use them to experiment and refine your prompts before committing to longer or more complex generations.
